To my knowledge, go on practice mode, and the point where the center of the ball passes through the red line exactly should be a perfect. I may be wrong, so by all means correct me if I am.

looking at the bar is really wrong... seriously.
one the background is so bright it blends in with the bar =D
secondly, if u can get the beat of the song, u'll notice u have to press it slightly before it enters the white area of the slider bar.
(hence why i play in tab mode.)

i agree~! i tap the beats with my feet, pinky, shoulders, and head sometimes, and then i don't have to bother with the bar
i guess it comes from all the instrument playing practice over the years?

Everytime I replay my playing I find myself hitting space bar way before the beat ...what was I thinking @.@??

maybe trying to rush through the arrows and getting your concentration on the beat thrown off because of that (rushing to the space bar?)
