I've found that, every single time I go into an NPC room, I end up lagging bad. Every, single time. It's embarassing, I tell you! >(

Well anyway, I was just wondering if there was something...ANYTHING...I could do to improve my computer's performance in npc battles. I hate dragging down the other players with my ungodly lag. ;_; In other modes I do fine the majority of the time, it's just in npc that I lag 100% of the time. I seriously end up just trying to chain greats, 'cause trying to get perfects makes me skip the beat completely. -_-~

Some specs:
Windows XP sp2
Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz
384 MB of RAM
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon 9000
basically i see no problem with your pc specs, try updating your cards. you might want to run your net connection by me too =P
it may be from the camera rotation, and maybe it just gets really close to the npc a lot. u can always press F2 and c if that helps, cuz it centres the camera so theres no zoom ins. and juays right too, update ur graphics card, or check ur connection. cuz lag for me is mainly cuz of either my graphics card, or my connection.
Your card's pretty old. I'm using a 9200SE and I, while not having played this game as of yet, have problems as well when there's too much going on onscreen. Your RAM's a bit low, and while this has a lot less to do with it, it still would help to have at least 500 in your comp.

Try and see if you can find out which type of slot your card is in and look around on Newegg for a better card. If you could post what kind of computer you bought(like if you bought a pre-made comp) I could possibly find out for you.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing PCI, but that's purely a guess.

And while internet connection could be a big factor, I doubt the camera rotation could be so conveniently simultaneous.

OH! RIGHT! Your card supports the ATi RADEON CATALYST Control Center! Download that from the site if you don't have it already. It'll take some work to use (You have to uninstall your current drivers, install that, and restart[crossing fingers, too]), but it allows you to speed up some games by tweaking some settings. I used it for Oblivion(which I'm really not supposed to be able to run XD).

I've also heard good things about Omega drivers for Radeon cards, which apparently are better tweaked than the official ones. Up to you.
Awesome guys, thanks for the tips!

The computer is an hp pavilion zv5000, just shy of 2 years old.

I'll look into the drivers. Wish me luck!

EDIT: Just checking, but if the drivers business goes haywire, a system restore point should get it back to normal, ye?

EDIT2: My net connection is a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC, and I'm on my university's LAN, which I've never had connection/speed problems with.

Yes, but you won't have to worry. If it doesn't work, you'll just boot at a super-poor resolution which should be enough to find the original drivers and install those.

I do it every time I reinstall. Frankly, it's a pain in the arse, but it works fine.

And do you have a laptop or a desktop? A quick google search suggests the prior, but, just to confirm?
i'm pretty sure it's your graphics card and ram if you have not had any previous connection problems, ram seems to be on the low end and so is the videocard, upgrade the vidcard Smile My brother has a Radeon 9600 XT. It's pretty smooth on it. I have a GF 6600 GT, so it's smoooth.

edit:

wait, is this a notebook?

^LLOL that's crazy, i have a P4 3.0 ghz HT and 1 gig dual channel ^^

must be hecka smooth though. 1900XTX CRAP.

I'm just waiting 'til i get the money so i can buy the Crossfire card but that won't happen soon <_<
Ok, time to necro the thread a bit. ^^;

I've downloaded the Omega driver for my ATI card, along with the ATI Tray Tools program. I've tried to set most of the Direct 3D settings to performance, however, despite things on the menus being a bit more blurry, I really haven't noticed a higher framerate/less lag in an actual dance battle. Is there something I can do now with this thing to improve my game's performance?
