well essentially this is how ranking works when u do searches on a particular topic example "audition" and we want goaudition.org to rank first.
1. the more websites that link to goaudition.org, the higher the ratings go. thats why its a tactic to goto other communities and spam them with links to goaudition.org [don't do this] Think of it as like a friends list. The more people that know you the more likely people are to connect to you.
2. Now the "google spider" comes in to check for new updates new messages etc. The more the updates the more the spider will come in [theoretically] since no one knows the true nature of the "google spider" only the developers know. well anyways its job is to make sure all links are active if their is a broken link, rating goes down by a point or so, and it counts the number of sites connected to this one.
3. "google spider" makes sure that all related information discussed on the boards will be used to advertise other related information.
thats about it unless someone wants to add.
