Looks like the Australian version of Rick Mercer's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhTZ_tgMUdo" target="_blank">Talking to Americans</a>, where he was asking them questions about Canada... except he was more focused on trying to get a hold of various governors and congressmen. He managed to talk to Al Gore and George Bush back during the 2000 election. Some of it was provoked when the report came out that many children in the United States couldn't find their home on a map.

I don't think they're saying that all Americans are stupid... just that some Americans are ignorant. They wouldn't show any of the edited out clips of Americans that actually knew stuff of the world. You could just as easily do something similar in any other country that's able to laugh at themselves. It's all in good fun.
