Well, how about you have an admin or mod activate accounts that are made and not do it automatically (Or by email activation, I can't remember what you did)

Manual activation is super slow - I wouldn't want to join a forum and wait houuursss for a staff to come on and approve me.
Email confirmation is normal and knocks out about 60% of the spam crap. Doesn't this forum already have that?

You can also check the email and other information, to see if it's kinda retarded. If it's like the other bots that have come. ;o

GN has a point on how to tell the difference between the bots or a human being. Plus its not gonna be so obvious like "DrugsForFree", they might start making up normal names, pretending to be normal human beings...o_o then they'll start spamming up the whole forums full of those nonsense!
mentioned in another topic,i personally think admin validation is the best way to get rid of the bots.
but i don't care much if they come either,it's actually quite entertaining to see these spam bots as i've experienced it on another board that i frequently post on ;P
