I figured it out on my own. Because I have a laptop, I need to continuously hold the Fn key down or else the numbers won't register at all... which means doing Expert Choreo or Sync-8 is a trial and a half for me.

my laptop requires that as well. fortunately i have a desktop as well, but if you really really want to play you can either purchase a USB keyboard or just a USB num pad keyboard
keypad (num pad) keyboards:
<a href="http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&from=R10&fstype=1&catref=C6&satitle=usb+keypad+keyboard&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&bs=Search&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=75043&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=" target="_blank">http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?s...prclo=&saprchi=</a>
normal usb keyboards:
<a href="http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&from=R10&fstype=1&catref=C6&satitle=usb+keyboard&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&bs=Search&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=75043&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=" target="_blank">http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?s...prclo=&saprchi=</a>
i would suggest just buying the keypad keyboards cause they're cheap and small
or else just learn how to hold Fn with your pinky! (not impossible, but man it's hard :/!)

The Home/PageUp/PageDown/End keys work as diagnols also
