Let's say you pulled off a sweet run or you did something so bizzare or amazing that you wanna show it off to everyone yet you don't exactly know how....or where to show it... This is what this guide is for, for those who doesn't quite get it yet.

    1. First off, you'll need fraps, which is a video game recorder software thingy : <a href="http://www.fraps.com/" target="_blank">http://www.fraps.com/</a>

-I would recommend to buy it though so that no annoying advertisiment like "www.fraps.com" would show up while recording. But yea basically you'll need any video recorder really, just stick with fraps.

    2. Okay, you got fraps, and you did your run in Audition...Yaaaay...Now how do I view the replay file?...
This is a very simple answer and trust me I got stuck on this for a while too...I'm a retard...

-Anyways, at the end of the games in Audition, more than likely you'd see something with a roll of film on the top left of the screen (Which was formerly "save game" on the top right) like this, If you click it then it'll save the vid as a replay..

    <a href="http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/1079/untitled1rj3.jpg" target="_blank">http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/1079/untitled1rj3.jpg</a>

    3. Now how the heck do I see the replay file already?

-First thing we need to get into our heads...to those who are smart to try to look for the replay file, thinking it's in the main folder....it's not.... The replay files, No matter how many there are, are all in a .arp file. So you can't view them yet..
-Back on Audition, if you go to the main menu screen, you'd notice that on the bottom right of the game list, there's this thing that says "Replay". It's kinda hard to miss so I'll put a screenie.

    <a href="http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/7818/untitled2el5.jpg" target="_blank">http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/7818/untitled2el5.jpg</a>

    4. Now, as the picture states, when you press Replay, a list pops up named Replay List.
-This shows the latest Audition match that you saved and if you press the arrow, It shows a full list of all the Audition Matches you saved, Now, press play and then follow the rest. When the game starts, It'll show a replay of the game you saved, Tada!

    5. Now that we got that out of the way, we'll start the recording...
-For those who used Fraps before...Fraps is a memory killer...A MEMORY KILLER! T_T If you're trying to record, especially with a crappy comp (cough like mines >.>) You maaay need to adjust the settings.

In the movie tab...Always ALWAYS ALWAYS set the size to Half-Size...Unless you want it to be 800x600 and let the recording lag like hell...total hell...
Mess around with the FPS settings...Throughout my time recording Audition...It doesn't lag much so it shouldn't be a problem

It would help in the FPS tab to turn Overlay Corner on so that you can see if it's recording or not, and to see the FPS currently. If it's red, It's recording, If It's Yellow, It's not recording, Remember that. And also, If you're worrying that the FPS counter will interferr with the recording, it won't, don't worry

    6. Once all that is set, launch Fraps and then launch Audition. Using the method above, Open the file you want to replay and play it. To record the game, press F9 and press F9 again to stop recording. Once you recorded what you wanted, go to the directory where the vid is recorded and......

    7. This is to why I said it's a memory killer... The recorded file will be like over 500MB...If it's anything like that or close...Don't be alarmed...That's just how Fraps works... You'll just need to compress the file...

    8. *dies from typing too much* How to compress a file... Since it's a whole different
    ball game...Check the next post....

    9. Once you got all that done, To host it online for everrrryone to see...you'll need a YouTube Account! And once you got that, upload the vid and TaDa! Uploaded and Recorded Audition Vid! ^_^ *collapses*

An example of a result I have uploaded like a few weeks ago.

    There ya go! Happy Audi!

Okay, Now I'll show you how to compress a video...

    1. Lets say you're done recording the video that you made for audition yet you see a HUGE file size...in its wake...Like for example, something like this (This is the properties of a clip I recorded in SM to add for You Tube later... this is only 1:50 minutes, so if a 2 min piece is that big...imagine how big recording an Audition piece would be...)

    <a href="http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7672/untitled2qr0.jpg" target="_blank">http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7672/untitled2qr0.jpg</a>

Yep..you saw it correct... almost damn near 400 megabytes... just from that X.x

    2. Now, for the actual compressing, which is lowering the size of a video in compensation for quality loss, You'll need Virtual Dub, which is a compressor itself. Once you're done downloading and installing, you're on to the next step.
    <a href="http://virtualdub.com/" target="_blank">http://virtualdub.com/</a>

    3. Oh right! Almost forgot!, Before doing ANYTHING, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CODECS, BOTH AUDIO AND VIDEO! If you don't know what codecs are or don't know where to find them, then Google codecs. Since I'm nice, I'll show one link on where to get codecs ^_^

    <a href="http://www.free-codecs.com/" target="_blank">http://www.free-codecs.com/</a>

    4. After opening Virtual Dub and getting your codecs, This should pop up

    <a href="http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/4500/untitled1iu0.jpg" target="_blank">http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/4500/untitled1iu0.jpg</a>

Now, we're going to open the file that we want to compress, in this case, I'll open the SM video that I'm using as an example. Here's a picture of what we should be up to at this point.

    <a href="http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/7113/untitled2yh0.jpg" target="_blank">http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/7113/untitled2yh0.jpg</a>

    5. Now, for the actual compression, go to video > compression, and basically pick any codec really.. I'm gonna use the DivX 4.12 Codec as an example

    <a href="http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/8687/untitled2ax5.jpg" target="_blank">http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/8687/untitled2ax5.jpg</a>

Same thing goes for Audio compression...audio > compression, But before you compress... MAKE SURE THAT FULL PROCESSING MODE IS CHECKED! And also to make sure to always select mp3 (MPEG Layer-3) and the top option

    <a href="http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/9573/untitled4jy7.jpg" target="_blank">http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/9573/untitled4jy7.jpg</a>
    <a href="http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/3387/untitled3or7.jpg" target="_blank">http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/3387/untitled3or7.jpg</a>

    6. Now all you need to do is save the avi as compressed and wait for it to compress and it's done...After compression, This is what it is now when i went to properties, which is now a HUGE difference

    <a href="http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/3993/untitled6iv6.jpg" target="_blank">http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/3993/untitled6iv6.jpg</a>

And that's basically it for compression ^_^ See, not that hard when ya get the hang of it xD

This is the video that was the subject on this part on the tutorial as an overall example of what could happen ^^

I don't think you mean "memory killer" persay, but more along the lines of, make sure you have a lot of harddisk space available as the video is uncompressed avi.

And also, the fullsize/halfsize choice is really up to you and your computer (personally I usually use fullsize and get a steady 30fps). If you think you have a pimpin rig, you have plenty of harddisk space, and you want a higher quality video, go ahead and choose FullSize. But yeah, Killha is right if your PC can't handle it, pop it down to halfsize.

If you mean Virtual Dub, then you need to search for a converter since that program only takes AVI files... I use this one : <a href="http://www.xilisoft.com/video-converter.html" target="_blank">http://www.xilisoft.com/video-converter.html</a> Yet you can find OTHER ways of getting converters and not having to *coughcough*do what they want you tooo *COUGGHH*

But yea in generals you're looking for converters

    *Whoever pinned this, TY!*

    1. Check your system volume (Control Panel > Sound settings > Volume) and check to see if the master volume is high enough, not too high but high enough. I don't know what else the problem could be...

    2. You have the trial version of fraps... Either buy it or look for "other" ways of getting the full version of fraps XD.

    *Adds on*

You should also check your Recording Controls properties (File->Properties, click Recording bullet, hit OK) and make sure the "Wave Out Mix" is selected as the recording source, and not your Microphone.

o3o -Wonders how old is this forum and wonders if I will get a reply XD-

I have trouble compressing it. :X The VirtualDub won't accept Windows Movie Maker files. :X

If it's not possible to compress with WMM, is there something I can use by just transfering over the video? :X

Did you do 'save as' on Windows Movie Maker? Because that isn't the way to compress it.

Press CTRL+P to save it as a playable file. (sorry, I don't know the english translation of WMM stuff.)
  • GamingnerdGamingnerd

I open the Fraps-saved .avi files in VirtualDub, and compress (Video->Compression) using XviD MPEG-4 Codec, I WOULD do DivX, but VirtualDub yells at me whenever I try saving in DivX, so XviD was my next best solution XD. A nice playable format of under 100mb EVERY time :D

    Well there's

    My Computer
    Recordable CD
    E-mail
The Web [tried it but it needed an account to something I've never heard of o.O]
    DV Camera
    and DVD :X
